Hi, I'm Sue Gilbert and I have a passion for sewing!
I was brought up with textiles as both my mum and grandma worked as machinists and at age 6 I was given my first hand sewing machine. At age 10 I moved onto an electric sewing machine and by the time I was 16 I was designing my own clothes.
In 1983 aged 16 I went into textiles manufacturing as a trainee designer and pattern cutter producing ladies’ nightwear and studied at college for a pattern cutting and grading course.
In 1989 I became a pattern technologist producing ladies’ lingerie, swimwear, dancewear and maternity lingerie and swimwear and progressed from hand cutting and grading onto a Gerber cad system to create pattern and grading.
In 1998 I worked as a pattern and garment technologist for an M&S supplier of ladies’ lingerie and men's underwear and nightwear. I worked on a garment from concept design up to the product appearing in-store including creating a pattern, ensuring the correct fit and final garment quality assurance.
In 2006 I became garment technologist for Next Retail men’s accessories covering men’s underwear, nightwear, hats, scarves, gloves and socks.
In 2008 my husband and I moved from Nottingham to Sutton on Sea for a better lifestyle and I started my own dressmaking business working from home doing garment alterations for Luck of Louth and local customers.
In 2010 the business moved into Mablethorpe Business Centre and I expanded my business to design and create bespoke garments and alterations.
In 2013 I moved to a new studio attached to my home.
I specialise in garment design, pattern technology and garment construction.
